Ranch House Plans
Sometimes called the California ranch style, Builders Plan Mart's Ranch style is uncomplicated and informal, evolving from several 20th century styles, such as Prairie or Bungalow Styles.
The style takes its cues from Spanish Colonial and Prairie and Craftsman homes, and is characterized by its one-story, pitched-roof construction, built-in garage, wood or brick exterior walls, picture windows, and sliding doors leading to patios. Also known as American Ranch, Western Ranch, or California Rambler, Builders Plan Mart's Ranch Style houses can be found in nearly every part of the United States.
Architectural Features:
- One story or split level
- Horizontal, rambling layout: Long, narrow, and low to the ground
- Rectangular, L-shaped, or U-shaped design
- Simple layout
- Lack of decorative elements
- Low-pitched gable roof
- Deep-set eaves
- Attached garage
- Built from natural materials: Oak floors, wood or brick exterior
